Become an Aide.
Are you a university student taking psychology, education, or social work and looking to gain valuable experience? Are you an experienced aide looking to support additional families? Join our community of dedicated aides and make a difference in the lives of children with disabilities in the Calgary area. Take the first step by signing up to become an aide with us below.
As an aide with Hispir Care, you're part of a child's care team. Families deserve a consistent aide they can count on, and the rapport you build over time is what makes a real difference.
The work looks different depending on the child and the service. Some sessions are structured and clinician-directed, focused on specific goals. Others are about community and being present during outings, day camps, and everyday life so a child can participate fully. Some are quieter: steady in-home support that a family can count on.
What stays consistent throughout: the child is always at the centre.
We're looking for aides who are excited about what it means to lift a child up, and who show up consistently for the child and family standing behind them. Having a background in child development, psychology, education, or social work is an asset, but it isn't everything. Some of the best aides bring lived experience, natural attunement, and an instinct for meeting a child exactly where they are.
What we care about most: that you take the work seriously without taking yourself too seriously, that you can follow a plan and still bring creativity to how it comes to life, show up present, and that when a family needs support or advocacy, you're ready.
- Reliability. Families deserve an aide they can count on. Whether it's communication or showing up prepared, that consistency is the foundation of everything.
- Attunement. The ability to read a child, adjust your approach, and notice what others might miss.
- Creativity. Turning everyday moments into play is a special part of what makes our work impactful. Finding fresh, resourceful ways to keep a child engaged even when the usual approach isn't landing is an asset.
- Follow-through. Working within clinician-led plans with fidelity, not just good intentions.
- Patience without passivity. Knowing when to wait and when to gently push forward.
- Professionalism. You manage your own schedule, so communicate clearly, and honour commitments.
- Genuine curiosity. A real interest in who this child is.
Available Opportunities
- Provide in-home support, implementing and modelling clinician-designed intervention plans through play-based strategies to the child and family.
- Collaborate closely with parents and specialists such as psychologists, speech-language pathologists, and occupational and behavioural therapists.
- Prepare materials and activities to bring to each session and complete session summaries. Session notes are completed for and shared directly with the family.
- Provide in-home and community-based support for children and families by making sure the child is safe and occupied.
- Assist with daily care routines, including hygiene and personal care, while allowing families to take a break and attend to other responsibilities.
- Support engagement, communication and independence through play and activities.
- As a Care Aide, you'll have the opportunity to work as a Respite Aide, Community Aide, Daycare Aide, and Extraordinary Care Aide — the same type of engagement across different settings.

Questions aides ask.
How is my schedule determined?
You're in charge of your own schedule and accept the opportunities that feel aligned, so the work grows with you too. We would always rather you wait till an opportunity feels right than over-commit.
Where are the sessions taking place?
Depending on the kind of support, sessions happen in the child's home or out in the community. We work with families across Calgary and the surrounding communities, including Okotoks, Airdrie, Cochrane, and Chestermere.
Can I start in Care and take on Behavioural opportunities later?
Absolutely! Growth comes with being a part of a community that is always reaching forward. Many aides choose to expand the types of families they support over time. Some start in Care, then later take on Behavioural opportunities, or even both!
Will I have support once I start?
Yes. Our Talent Specialist will support you through our process to help you get started, and be there if you ever need support. As a part of our Mentorship program, you may also choose to connect with a mentor, attend workshops led by industry professionals, and join community events with the rest of the Hispir Aide Community.
